Here are just a few pictures from Lindsey's Birthday. We had a great night. We had lots of fun with family and friends. I can't believe how grown up Lindsey is getting. Today she had her 3 year check up and the doctor said she is doing just great. We are thankful for the little girl God gave us three years ago.

It was so much fun spending time with family and making memories. More than ever this weekend I was reminded to "Cherish The Moments" that we have with our family. We have a lady in our church who spent many years with her family in Alaska. While there she made many lifetime friends. One family in particular became very close to her and they have remained friends to this very day. These are friends who have helped each other through the worst of times and rejoiced in the best of times. Well, this last weekend was one of the worst of times. While traveling on a highway in Alaska, Grandmother, mother and 2 grand babies (one 4 years old and one 5 months old) were involved in a horrific traffic accident with a semi-truck. Grandmother broke her pelvis and Mom had several broken bones. Both babies were killed in the accident. As we were given the news our hearts broke. They broke for our friend, her friends and the church there in Alaska. Then came the moment of truth for me. A picture was posted on the Internet of the two birth announcements asking for special prayer. Of course we were praying even as we didn't know how to pray. The birth announcement for the 5 month old said that she (yes, a girl) was born on Feb 11, 2011. This is Lauren birthday also. I had to quickly click the picture off the screen. Why did this happen? What is God's plan? I was reminded of the verses in Isaiah 55:6-9.

"Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your way my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your way, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

I was reminded that at all times I need to seek the Lord. I need to seek him for wisdom and strength. I can not do all that I need to do without the wisdom and strength of the Lord. I was reminded to call upon the Lord. In everything God wants us to call upon him. He wants to hear our every need, want and fear. I don't know how many times in recent days Jake and I have looked at each other and said,"There are just so many hurting hearts right now." God wants us to bring those burdens of our own and those of others and give them to him. I was remind to forsake my own thoughts. I may have an opinion about things in my life or circumstances of others lives but really my thoughts are so far below the thoughts of the Lord. I need to try to have the mind of Christ. Think in ways that are biblical and not fleshly or earthly. I was reminded that God loves this family more than they love themselves or each other. He loves them more than there closest friends and family. He loves them more then there church family. He knows what is best and although we don't understand, we can trust that God would never do anything that was not for our best. I thought, what if that had been me and my mom? What if those had been my children? Would I be able to trust God the way that I need to? To be honest, I just don't know. I am trying to use this lesson to seek God more, trust him more and think his thoughts and not my own thoughts. I have to remember that God loves me and my family more than I do and give them all to the Lord. This is the only way to have peace. Resting in the goodness and faithfulness of God. This dear family needs more prayer now than they have ever needed. They have just begun this journey of healing and trusting. I am praying for them. Will you pray with me? Pray that the Devil will stay out of this family and that they will trust and rest in the almighty arms of our all wise God. Because it is only Him that can heal their hearts.

My friend, Belinda Howes, and I were expecting babies at the same time. Belinda's baby's name is Sophie. She was born just two weeks before Lauren. Sophie's sister, Sarah, and Lauren's sister, Lindsey, are best of friends. They are about seven months apart and have the best of time together in the nursery. On Easter Sunday, Sarah came to church with her new dress on. My mom had also bought Lindsey that same dress. Although Lindsey and Lauren had different Easter dresses. So we ran to get Lauren the matching dress to Sophie's and then planned a photo shoot. The story of the day was that the big girls did great and the little girls had a rough time. When one was happy the other cried. Neither of them could sit up and the big girls got nervous when they tried to do all four of them together. Anyway, we had a great time and made many fun memories. Lauren Ryleigh Burkholder

Lauren Ryleigh Burkholder was born on February 11, 2011. We had a scheduled c-section. We got to the hospital at 6:00am and the surgery was scheduled at 8:00am. This was different from Lindsey's c-section as it was planned and Lindsey's was not. This time I had a spinal and it did not take very well. As I am about to explain this was just the beginning of the drama. Jake waited in the waiting room as the spinal was being done which should have just been 15 minutes and turned into about 30 minutes. After the second spinal everything was ready to begin. They brought Jake in and began the surgery. About half way through Jake began to feel weak and started to pass out. I was holding his hand and could see his face. One of the three doctors broke scrub to help him and the male nurse and the doctor were able to get him safely to the floor and as soon as he hit the floor his woke up. All at the same time the doctor nicked a uterin artery and I was loosing blood. I started to feel pain and was anxious about Jake so they had to give me a sedetive in my IV. Well, all that to say Lauren was born very healthy and had no problems. Her parents not so much. :) The recovery processe went very well and we all went home three days later. Lauren has brought so much joy to our home. She is a very happy baby and has a great smile and has been laughing from the very beginning. I hope that you enjoy her new born pictures.

Monday night while Mom and Dad were at Bible Institute Class, Lindsey got to go to Nana and Papa's house to play with Landon. He was staying with Nana and Papa for a few days while his Mom and Dad were at a preaching conference. They had so much fun playing with the bubbles.

One Tuesday night, Papa called and asked, "What are you doing?" We said that we were about to fix dinner and then had shopping to do. Papa said, "How about meeting Nana, Landon and Papa at Chucky Cheese for pizza and games. Of course, we said, "Yes"!!!!!!!!! Lindsey and Landon "driving" the fire truck. They were having a great time.

The fire truck was Landon's favorite. He cried every time we tried to get him to try a new ride.

We had a wonderful Easter Sunday. It was the end of our World Mission Conference. One of the Missionary Families that we had at our conference this year was Jake's cousin, Omar Schrock. Visiting Crown College

Lindsey and I were able to travel with my Mom and Dad to Knoxville, TN and visit Crown College and the Temple Baptist Church for the International Baptist Friends Conference. We all had a great time. We were able to see many friends and hear a few good messages from God's Word. Lindsey got very sick towards the end of the week so we were at the hotel most of the time but we did manage to get these pictures of Lindsey at the beginning of the week.

First, I would like to say, Praise The Lord for His protection over the life of Lindsey and that this story did not end up any worse than it did. So, here goes...

Let's just say that the last few months have been a little stressful and so due to some business that we needed to do in Seattle my husband planned a little "get-a-way". He booked us a beautiful hotel room. We left Thursday after he got off of work and left little Lindsey at home with Nana and Papa. We planned to stay in the Seattle area until Saturday morning and then drive home to be in Spokane Saturday afternoon. We took care of our business on Thursday evening when we arrived in town and then were left with a few days to just have fun. On Friday we went to IKEA. This was so much fun. I have affectionately named IKEA the "girl's Cabela's". It was great. We then headed for the Seattle waterfront and did all the sight seeing things to do. Pike's Place Market, the original Starbuck's, the water front and even a one hour Harbor tour on a boat. We were having a great time. We picked up a pizza and headed back to the hotel. While we were eating our pizza we got a phone call from my Dad...Here is where the real story begins. They were headed to the ER because Lindsey had decided to get into Nana's purse and open her Diabetes blood sugar medicine. Some how she got the child safety lid off and when my dad found her she had blue coming out of her mouth. These pills are the melty kind. My parents call poisen control and when they told them the type of medicine it was Poisen Control said to head to the ER right away. My dad said that we would prefer to take her to the Children's ER but that the Holy Family Hospital was about 5 min. closer. Poisen Control did not even give them the option and said to head to Holy Family and that they would call the ER and tell them that they were coming. Upon arrival at the ER, Lindsey was given an IV and an "soda drip" (sugar water) was given to her. This medicine has the potential to drop a child's blood sugar fast and very low. This can cause seizures and brain damage. After consulting with the on-call Doctor at Children's Hospital they decided to admit her to Children's Hospital for observation. They were concerned because they did not know if she actually got any of the medicine or just got it in her mouth and then spit it out. They were also concerned about the time of day. It was bed time. They did not want my parents to wake up to a baby having a seizure in the middle of the night. At this point we packed our things and began the 4 1/2 hour drive home. We arrived at the hospital at about 1:00am. Lindsey was asleep and so Nana and Papa and Daddy went home to get a good night's sleep and I stayed at the hospital with Lindsey. We stayed in the hospital until about 5:00pm Saturday and everyone was fine. We were all just a little tired. We are so thankful that this was not as bad as it could have been. The nurses and doctors were all great and everyone just loved Lindsey. At one point, Lindsey was in her crib screaming, Happy, happy, happy. This is her newest word. I also forgot to tell you that because they had already put the IV in at the first ER, Lindsey had to ride in the ambulance to the Children's Hospital. She even got a teddy bear from the ambulance people. Here are a few pictures from Lindsey hospital room.

Again, I can not say how thankful I am for the Lord's protection in our lives. Recently I have seen some blogs of people who have been through things that I could never imagine. Some of these trials even ending in the loss of a child to diesese. In the last few weeks, I have been reminded of a few things...

1. We Serve A Great God That Knows What Is Best For Each And Every One Of His Children. I am always amazed at the love and care that we receive from an Almighty God who takes a personal interest in our lives.

2. We Should Always Take The Time To Love Our Family. Some times we get so busy. I am learning to train a almost two year old. This can be hard at times to not get frustrated and to be consistant. Yet in the most frustrating moments, I am remembering to hug Lindsey a little longer and a little tighter. I am learning to be thankful for the people that the Lord has placed in my life and to not take them for granted. I am not a good driver at night. Yet, that Friday night, Jake needed a break and we switched places. I put Patch The Pirate in the CD player and sang as loud as I could without waking Jake up. I knew that with every rotation the the tires I was getting closer to my baby. Take time to love the ones closest to us.

Well, I am sure that there is so much for me to learn and as I think of more I will post my thoughts. This blog has mostly been a "scrapbook" type blog for me. It is rare that I really "share". Thank you for taking the time to read our blog and for checking in on our family. Have a great day!!!!

Recap of the Last Few Months

Here is a recap of the last few months. As many of you may know it seems to be that Facebook is the newest thing and many of my friends are there. So, the blogging world is left neglected. Although I hope that everyone enjoys this blog, I really enjoy preserving my memories this way and am sad that many things that have happened will not be recorded due to no pictures or little memory. Things are best remembered at the moment and that is what I am not so good at. So here is my attempt to recap the happenings of September through December...

September was a busy month with school starting and things really getting under way. I am not teaching in school but piano lessons start and the month ends with the church Anniversary service.

October was a fun month. Our church hosts a Harvest Party in place of Halloween. This years theme was a Farm Theme. Lindsey dressed as a Lady Bug. Nana also threw a Harvest Party up at the camp were Landon lives. Landon dressed as a Scarecrow. This is a picture is one that we took with Landon and Lindsey in their costumes. November was also an exciting month. Grandma and Grandpa Burkholder came to visit. We took them all around the town. We went to a local museum called the Campbell House. This museum tells a lot of the local history of Spokane and in Inland Northwest. We then went to Post Falls, ID just over the boarder to the only Cabela's that we have. We ate lunch in the cafe and enjoyed Bison Burgers. We then spent some time looking at all the animals and shooting the laser guns. Lindsey did really well getting to know Grandma and Grandpa. They read books and had a great time playing.

We enjoyed the Thanksgiving Holiday at my parents house. Eric and Christa (my sister) and Landon came down from Montana. We had a great time. No early morning shopping for me. I slept in.

December was a very busy month. We were gearing up for our Church's Christmas Musical Presentation. I played the piano for the children's choir. This was a big deal for me as we used a Majesty Music Program and I played the song accompaniment. I usually get really nervous and have a hard time. We had practice a lot and then I just prayed and the Lord really helped my. The other thing that made this a busy time was that Jake played one of the main rolls as the Grandpa/Cow. I also had the opportunity to travel with Jr. High and High School class of Faith Baptist Academy to the Fine Arts Competition. We had worked very hard and entered in many events. From academics, music and sports. All the students did well and placed in many events. We did so well that we placed first as a school in every category and took first place as a school in the over all competition. We had so much fun and the bus ride was not that bad. :)

We went to my parents house for Christmas Eve and again Eric, Christa and Landon came for the weekend. On Christmas Eve we played games, eat snacks, and then went out to look for Christmas Lights. We also watched a fun Christmas Movie. We stayed the night at my parents house Christmas Eve and woke up Christmas Morning for lots of fun. We had a great breakfast casserole made in the crock-pot. We enjoyed our yearly reading of the Christmas Story and then watched Lindsey and Landon open their presents. Lindsey was so excited and Landon was over whelmed. Some of Lindsey's favorites were the book, "If you give a cat a cupcake" and the stuffed kikky (keykey=kitten) that came with it. She also enjoyed the baby doll and stroller that we gave her. She pushed the stroller all around the house. Baby in the stroller, Cat under her arm. She was so cute and precious. After all the excitement Lindsey and Landon were ready for a nap. We laid them down and then the adults were able to open their presents in peace.

So far we are having a great January. We have already traveled to Tacoma, Wa for the Preacher's Delight Meeting. This was a great time of preaching and refreshment. We took a great group of teenagers to the meeting. We were able to hear great preachers such as David Gibbs and Eric Capaci. We are now back into piano full time and sports games for the school and are looking forward to the Feb tournament. Hopefully I will be able to keep up better with the blog. Lindsey's First Swim!!!!

Lindsey got to go to her first pool party while her Dad was at the Men and Boys Campout. Mrs. Tucker, a lady in our church, opened her home and pool to the ladies and we had a great time. I found this floating toy at Winco Foods and it helped Lindsey a lot. She did not know what to think and I don't think she really liked it. When I got in the pool with her, she just wanted me to hold her and she hung on for dear life. It was cute and sad all at the same time. It was close to nap time, so Lindsey got out of the pool and took a nap and Mom enjoyed the rest of the time in the water. We had lunch and enjoyed the fellowship. Hopefully next year Lindsey will enjoy the water a little bit better and have fun.

First Dentist Visit!!!

Lindsey had her first visit to the Dentist this morning. We had to get up very early and she was not really impressed. Miss Kaitlyn went with us because I had to get my teeth cleaned also. Lindsey had some Fluoride painted on her teeth. Dr. Martin said that she had very nice teeth and that some of her back teeth were about to come in. Well, like the bad blogger that I am I forgot my camera. I really wanted to take a picture for the baby book. Anyway, maybe that next time. Thank you for stopping by and Have a great day!!!!!

I have to tell you that Facebook has stolen all my time and I feel like a blogging traitor. Things have been crazy and there has been so much going on. I just finished all my piano lessons and we had our recital on Monday, June 1st. I had 10 students this year. They all worked hard and did a great job. Lindsey is growing so much and I can't believe it but in two weeks she will be a year old. We are planning a fun party and Lindsey's Great Grandmother, Oldamor is coming to celebrate with us. Over the President's Day Holiday our school, Faith Baptist Academy went to the annual basketball and volleyball tournament. They did a really good job and had a great time. We enjoyed watching their games and being there to cheer them on. The girls missed the final four teams by one point and the boys played their hearts out in a overtime game only to fall to their biggest rivals, Faith-Tacoma by one point. This was a hard loss for the seniors but we could not have lost to a better team. Faith-Tacoma is a good friend to our church and we congratulate them on a great win. They better just watch out next year!!!! :)Here is Lindsey Lou with on of the Eagles players. They were very sad because they had just lost. Lindsey loved the Eagles and had a great time watching them play.
All tuckered out from a very stressful final game. The game was so close and went back and forth the whole time.
Baby Eagle #1. Mrs. Cook, a lady in our church, made Lindsey some culottes that looked just like the Volleyball teams culottes. Miss Consford, a teacher in our school and talented screen printer, made her onesie for her and Mrs. Farnsworth made Autumn and Lindsey matching bows so they could be little cheer leaders.
Here is one of the games that the boys won that helped them get to the final round. Practice hard this summer Men and Lady Eagles!! We will be ready next year to cheer you on. So Much To Post So Little Time!!!!

Hey, I am still alive and would you believe that I have a minute to post. There is so much to post about but I just have one tidbit for you today. I have seen so many "Thank yous" to President Bush on other people's blog and have been trying to think of something to put on my blog. On Inauguration Day, although history was being made and that was exciting, I was a little sad to see President Bush leave office. This a man who I believe did the very best that he knew to do at the moment. Many of his decisions are the reason that our country has been safe from attack for the last 7 years. I also saw President Bush treat President-Elect Obama with a graciousness that he was not given when he took office. So because I have grown to love this President (I did not say that I always agreed with him), I post this video. I found this on a friend's Facebook page and cried both times I watched it. I hope you enjoy the letter that the Bush Twins wrote to the Obama Daughters...

So, Thank you President Bush!!!! Thank you for keeping us safe. Thank you for teaching your daughters to do such a sweet thing. Thank you to you and your family for your years of service to our country. To all my friends, thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!!!

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Galatians 4:2-7

The verses above speak of being children of God. During this Christmas season, please take a moment and ask yourself if you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If you do, then remember that you are a son and that the relationship that you have can be as close as a son and his father. If you do not know that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior than I would ask you to think about these few short things...

1. God loves You. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotton son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life."

2. All Men Are Sinners. Romans 3:10 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:"

Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

3. Sin Must Be Payed For. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

4. Christ Paid For Our Sin When He Died On The Cross. Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were sinners, Christ died for us.

5. We Must Personally Pray and Receive Christ As Our Savior. Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

The Great Snow of 2008!!!! Starting Wednesday, December 17th at about 7:30 am the snow came. In a few words it has not stopped snowing since. Here are a few pictures of the "fun" we have been having. This is our car having already been cleaned off once.

The church parking lot. This was before the parking lot was plowed. Jake could not get the car out of the parking lot until Friday evening when the plow came. He has to walk to Market Street on Thursday morning to catch a ride with Larry and then to Euclid Street on Friday. Our street (Regal) just got plowed today, December 23, 2008.

Lindsey making her first snow angel. She really did not know what to think of the snow. She just kept looking around at all the white stuff. We were only out for a few minutes. Well, we are still having to shovel every day and the snow is for casted to come every day this week. Needless to say we will be having a "White Christmas". Things have been very busy around here. Everything from Youth Night, Fine Arts Competition and many other church activities. I am still waiting on some of those pictures but if you read on you will see a lot of what Lindsey has been doing. Here Lindsey and I are planning our "Black Friday" Shopping. We are reading the Toys R Us ad so that we could tell PaPa what we wanted. Papa and Aunt Bug (that's my sister and it a long story why that's what we call her) made it to Babies R Us and Shopko (low end Target) at 5:00 am while Nana and Lindsey and I went a little later in the morning. We still got all the deals that we needed. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. We spent the day at my Mom and Dad's house with my sister and her husband. My mom bought Lindsey this bib for her Thanksgiving cereal. She loved it.

Bro. Rick and Ms. Debbie Donley and their youngest son Stephen brought Lindsey this monkey when we were in hospital. It has fast become on of her favorite toys. The monkey has long skinny arms and so my Mom decided to tie it to the jungle gym toy at her house. The monkey has a "Binky" at the end of one of her arms and Lindsey got "confused" and had the monkey's " "Binky" in her mouth. It was so cute to watch Lindsey get the "Binky" in her mouth and they watch her face as she must have been thinking..."this is not like my "Binky"."

You probably all know but I have learned that the Mom is almost always the one taking the pictures. So there are not very many of Lindsey and me. My mom took these on a Sunday night after church. This is Lindsey's newest toy. Her Oldamore found it at a yard sale and her Nana financed the purchase of the new toy. The first time we put her in it she was not to sure about it. She has warmed up to it very nicely and loves to learn all the new things to do on it.

This is Mrs. Cunning. The Cunnings are one of our most faithful families and Mrs. Cunning suffers from MS. She is in a lot of pain all of the time and this was the first time she was able to be in church for the first time in several months.

Outside my window...today was rain and clouds. Winter is fast approaching and we can't wait for snow.

I Am Thinking...that one week from today my baby girl will be 5 months old. My how time flies.

I Am Thankful For...A God who is in control. This is going to be my one rant about the elections. I have had a very hard time. I mourn for a nation who was founded on the Word of God and then to see those founding principles just thrown away breaks my heart. I know that this has been happening for a long time and that the answer to our moral problems does not come from the White House or Congress. May God show His mercy upon us and may we as Bible believing, Born Again people stand strong as a remnant for God's glory. May we witness, love and teach people the things that we have been taught.

2Ti 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

2Ti 1:12 "For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day."

I am sorry that I missed last week. I am really going to try and keep this up. So here goes...
Outside My Window... I am not actually looking our "my" window today. We are in MO visiting Jake's family. Out the window is a large field. The "boys" aka...Jake and Sam and Eli are chasing a particular groundhog that has been causing trouble since we got here.

I Am Thinking... I need to repack the suitcases and get ready for the day. Also I am thinking that it has been to visit family and friends but I miss my bed.

I Am Thankful for... a baby girl who has traveled so well. She is a precious gift from God.

From The Kitchen... again I am not in my own kitchen but the dishes are drying and everything is quite for now. Soon things will be buzzing for lunch.

I Am Creating... today not much. When I get home I will begin on coming up with ideas for Christmas.

I Am Going... probably to visit some more family and friends. Tomorrow on to Kansas City and then home on Wednesday.

I Am Reading... Good House Keeping and Baby Wise.

I Am Hoping... that all my piano students remembered that there are no lessons this week on Monday or Tuesday.

I Am Hearing... the barroom, barroom of the 4 wheeler. That means that the boys are having fun.

OK, so we all got together to take a family picture for my mom's Christmas card. The funniest thing is that we ended up buying more pictures of Lindsey than we did of the family. Ok, I am sorry that this has taken me so long. We just finished are 2008 Ladies Retreat and it was such a blessing. Lindsey and I have just has to recover. On Monday we went to the doctor. Lindsey weighs 13.7 pounds and is 25 inches long. We had a few more shots and she did really good. I was able to make about a two hour trip to see my good friend, Alicia. That was fun even though we got back home really late. Ok, here goes...Seven random things about my self.

1. I was born in Okinawa, Japan on November 1, 1976. A little fact about my birthday that I did not even know when I was growing up is that Mrs. Caroline Roberson's birthday was also November 1st.

2. In the one and only Fine Arts Competition that I competed in I won 5th place in Piano Solo.

3. Until I was in 10th grade. I had only been as far east as Coeur d' Alene, ID.

4. My good friend in Tennessee taught me how to make purses out of place mats.

5. I had to opportunity to spend one of my go-home weekends in college with Bro. Steve and Mrs. Judy Robertson in North Carolina. We went to a Wake Forest Basketball game, shopping at the mall and out to eat at a Mexican restaurant, watched Anne of Green Gables and went to Basketball practice.

6. I have only lived in four places, Okinawa, Japan, Spokane, Wa, Powell, Tn, and Lancaster, Ca.

7. My family comes from a small town in Ireland named (of all things) Boyle, Ireland.

I have seen this on a few other blogs and thought it would be a good way for me to write my thoughts...I like the little promps. Outside my window...the sky is partly sunny and school is in session. I have only missed school once and that was the beginning when everyone was getting their classrooms ready. Then I look over to the swing and Lindsey is sleeping peacefully and I don't miss my classroom any more.

I am thinking...there is so much to do this week. We are having our ladies retreat at the end of the week and I have to finish putting the book together and get all the door prizes ready and pack for Lindsey and me.

I am thankful for...what the Lord has done in my life. From my Christian heritage to the gift of a Godly man in my life to the newest gift that God has given me...Lindsey.

From the kitchen...the dishes are calling, brownies have been made and sewing needs to be done.

I am creating...the ladies retreat book, door prize packages and many other projects.

I am going...to piano lessons, music practice and home to get lots done.

I am reading...I just finished a fun fiction book about two friends and their trip to Finland, "Let's Make a Memory" - lots of good ideas of things to do with your children, my decipleship notebook for Saturday mornings.

I am hoping...that my mom and dad have a safe trip home from Canada.

I am hearing...the news, and the click, click of the swing.

One of my favorite things...when the phone rings and it is my husband saying he is on his way home from work.

A few plans for the rest of the week...piano lessons, the ladies retreat. Lots of other things that will help with the Ladies retreat.

Fun Times With Old Friends!!!

On Tuesday we were able to spend the evening out to dinner with my good friends, Ron and Jeannie Goodman. They are missionaries to Mexico and the last time they were home I was not even dating anyone. Ha Ha!! So we took a little bit of time for Jake to meet them and for them to get to know Jake. How time flies when you try to cram a lifetime of memories into one dinner. Ron's sister Jackie and her husband Monty, Ron's Mom, Sharon Goodman and my parents were also able to join us. Jackie and Monty live here in Spokane and Mrs. Sharon Goodman is getting ready to go to Malawi, Africa to work with a Missionary there that has a children's home for orphans. You can see a blog for their ministry on the blog list to the side of my blog. Anyway, we had a great time catching up and getting to know each other.

Saturday Day-trip To Lota-Wata Bible Camp!!

On Saturday we all got up early and drove to the camp. We were able to show Pastor and Mrs. Sexton some of the beautiful country between Spokane, WA and Noxin, MT. We had breakfast at McDonald's and had a wonderful steak lunch provided by Bill and Deb Jensen. We were able to show Pastor and Mrs. Sexton all of the camp property. They were very excited to see what the Lord is doing with this property. Pastor Sexton and Dad on the banks of the Clark Fork River. The camp property boarders this river.

Sunday Night Fun!!!

Sunday night was a great end to a wonderful weekend. We had one to baptize so my dad asked the guys quartet to sing while they got ready. They sang the song "Goodbye, World Goodbye". Pastor just loved them.
When they were done singing, Pastor Sexton wanted to get his picture taken with the group and had their piano player to come up with them to be in the picture. He said to remember they couldn't do what they did with out the pianist. Go, Beka!!
After the baptism, dad needed to get back to the auditorium and was going to have the congregation sing a song. Instead, Pastor Sexton wanted to sing a few songs. This has always been one of my favorite memories from college. It was great.
At the very end of the service, Jake and I brought Lindsey forward to have our family dedicated to the Lord. It was such a sweet time and we were honored to have Pastor Sexton pray the dedication prayer.
I just thought this was a great picture of Pastor and my Dad. What sweet friends. I am so thankful for the friendship of Pastor and Mrs. Sexton to our family.

So Much Going On, So Little Time To Post

A lot has happened in the time since I last posted. I have started piano lessons with 7 students. There are a few more possibilities for students but I am thankful for this start. They all are doing well and seem to really enjoy their lessons. I am also helping in the school office one morning a week. I know I just couldn't stay away. They needed help answering the phones and it helps me to stay connected with what is going on. It is amazing how out of touch you feel and I just live across the parking lot.

The other big thing that has happened is that I had my gall bladder removed on the 18th of September. I have had three attacks since Lindsey was born and the doctor said it would probably only get worse. I am feeling good, just a little sore. It was day surgery and they did not have to cut me all the way open. That was what I was praying for.

This is a big week coming up. On Sunday, September 28, 2008 Faith Baptist Church will be celebrating our 27th Anniversary. This time of year always makes me very nostalgic as I think of all the wonderful memories our family has made serving the Lord. There are just too many to share in one post. Friends and Family will be arriving in town starting Wednesday and there are so many things to do. We are also having a regional Pastor's College with Dr. Clarence Sexton and he and Mrs. Sexton will be arriving this week also. I can't wait to see them. Adventures with my sweet baby girl!!!

This is the picture of the week. I have been trying very hard not to let Lindsey suck on her fingers or thumb. Every time I see her I take them out and give her the "bink" as we have come to call it. I have always felt that I would rather fight the binky battle and not the thumb battle. Well, one morning not to long ago Jake went in to check on the sweet little thing and this is how he found her. Sound asleep with her thumb in her mouth. She has been sleeping so well at night so I guess that I won't complain and she is so cute. She is really growing and she is starting to figure things out. Like, if she will cry loud and long enough that we might come in and pick her up. At first I thought that she might be having tummy aches and felt sorry for her but now I do not feel sorry for her. Mostly because one time Jake and I went in to check on her and as soon as she saw us she quit crying and smiled at us. Little turkey!! This does not make it easy to let her cry but I know that I can not spoil her either. If I could have my way I would hold her all day long.

Well, last night we went to the Spokane County Fair. Like a good blogger, I remembered the camera. We got to the baby pigs that where only four weeks old. They were oh, so cute and I thought, "How fun, we could take Lindsey's picture with all the baby animals". So I said to Jake, "get the camera" and I went to take a picture of the animals but I had forgot to charge the camera. It was so dead that it would not even turn on. I was so disappointed!! Well, maybe next time I will not only remember to bring the camera but to have it charged up before we go somewhere. We went to the cow barn and they were mooing. Lindsey was so confused. Her eyes were so big and she kept her eyes right on Jake and I. It was cute to watch her hear and see new things even though she is a little young to know what she is seeing. We had such a great time together as a family. We stayed till the very end and got home very late. Lindsey ate and went right to bed. She was so tired. I am thankful for a sweet baby girl and for the help that the Lord has given me.

"...As Thy Days So Shall Thy Strength Be."

Today was a hard day for the heart of a first time mom. Today was Lindsey's two month check-up and also the day for her first shots. I added this picture because it was one of her only smiles today and she looks so sweet. She did really great with the doctor and she weighs 11lbs 11 oz and is 23 1/4 inches tall. The doctor answered lots of my silly questions and said she is doing really good. Then the nurse came back into the room and gave her the shots. The nurse did a great job and it went really fast. Lindsey did a great job. The first shot received a look that said, "what was that?" The second shot got the ugly face and the third shot got the most pitiful scream. This is when I lost it. I had never heard her cry like that and it broke my heart. Jake picked Lindsey up quickly and hugged her. She did not even cry for very long. I think I cried longer than she did. I had given her some Tylenol and only had to give her one more dose. I am so thankful that Jake was able to go with us. Our appointment was supposed to be at 9:00 am and I was thinking that I was going to have to go by myself. My mom and dad are out of town, but I had many friends who offered to go with me. Thankfully the Dr.'s office was able to change our appointment to 1:40 pm and Jake could go. Later we went to the baseball game with the youth group, which I will post about later. She did a great job and enjoyed everything except the loud noises. Jake just preached on Wednesday night on Deuteronomy 33:25 "...as thy days, so shall thy strength be." It was comforting to know that the Lord was with us all day and that I could trust Him with a situation that I had never faced before. As I am blogging, Lindsey is sleeping peacefully in her bed and I know that the Lord has been so good to me. I am thankful for my family and friends. I know that I have rambled on a bit today but am thankful for all those who stop by to check in with us. I hope you all have a great day and remember no matter what you face, God has promised us that "...as thy days, so shall thy strength be."

Lindsey's Trip to Seattle!!

My mom and I recently took Lindsey to Seattle to meet her extended relatives. We had a great trip and were glad to see those that were able to come. Lindsey and her Oldamor and Oldamor's dog, Amber

Lindsey's First Trip to Tennessee!!

Lindsey's first trip was to Knoxville, TN for the 2008 National Youth Congress at the Temple Baptist Church. We took four teenagers from our church and not only enjoyed the services but also the scenery of the great Smokey Mountains. We also saw so many good friends and family. It was hard to see everyone and are sorry if we missed anyone. Lindsey's first plane ride. She did a great job and did not seem to have any ear pain at all. One of the stewardess said that the babies seem to great and the parents are more concerned and worried. I just tried to keep her comfortable and let her tell me what she needed.

Kindergarteners Visit Miss Lindsey

Last year my kindergarten class was so excited to meet Baby Lindsey. A few of them were able to stop by the hospital and our house to visit Miss Lindsey. Lindsey and Brylea G.
Megan stopped by to bring Lindsey's mom and dad dinner. It was very good.
Josiah was helping his mom clean the church one day as we walked through. He was very excited to hold the baby. Thank you to all those who stopped by and encouraged us right after Lindsey was born.

My Aunt Lisa and Aunt Leanne wanted to give my MorMor a "girl's day out". They looked all over Seattle and could not find one that was available. My dad helped out and found one in Spokane and then my mom and dad came by to see Lindsey before they left. We took a few pictures with NaNa and PaPa in the convertable.

New Look To The Blog!!!!

As you will notice, I have changed the picture on the blog header. I thought that a picture of Lindsey would be appropriate because she is the main thing going on at "Jake and Amy's Place." Yesterday was Lindsey's one month birthday. I can't believe that she is a month old. It seems like just yesterday that we went to the hospital and that Lindsey was born. I have learned so much in the last month and the the Lord has been so good to me. I am thankful for my parents and my husband for being patience with me and my emotions. (I think that Nana and Papa are addicted to Lindsey.) We are glad for Godly grandparents for Lindsey to grow up around. Well, I have babbled on for long enough. Lindsey's First Trip to Lota-Wata Bible Camp and Happy 4th of July!!!!

Lindsey took her first trip to Lota-Wata Bible Camp. We left on July 2nd after church on Wednesday night. We drove up to the camp with my Mom and Dad. On Thursday we had our staff planning meeting to plan the church calendar for 2009. We played games and had a great steak dinner and enjoyed time with the staff and all their families. On the fourth of July, the church family came to the camp and we had a picnic. Lindsey was a big hit and everyone wanted to hold her and kiss her. She did very well sleeping and being out in the woods. On our way home, we stopped by our friends, The Samples family. Angie is a photographer and she took a few pictures of baby Lindsey. Wow!! Two Weeks and Counting!!!

Well, I was not sure what to name this post. I can not believe that it has been two weeks and a day since Lindsey was born. The range of emotions I have felt has been overwhelming. I have come to realize that this is a job bigger than me and that more than ever I need the Lord's help. Over all, Lindsey is going a great job and is a very good baby. We have been working on the nursing thing and are trying to figure it all out. We went to the Doctor yesterday for our two week check-up. The doctor was very pleased. Lindsey has regained her birth weight and has grown to 22 1/4 inches. The doctor seemed very pleased. Her next visit will be for two months and we will be getting our first shots. That should be fun. Lindsey has already spent her first services in the church nursery and did a great job. I am sorry that I do not have any new pictures. They have not been down loaded yet and we have been very busy preparing for our big trip to Tennessee. Well, I'd better go. Thanks for checking in with us and have a great day!!

Announcing The Long Awaited Arrival of Lindsey Renee Burkholder!!

Well, let me just start at the beginning of the end. We packed our bags and headed for the hospital on Sunday Evening June 15th. We arrived at the hospital and were checked into our beautiful room right away without any problems and were greeted with a sweet smile. Our first nurse, Gayle, asked lots of questions, got us settled and started what we will call a slow Mizo induction. After only three doses of the Meds, my water broke all on its own. This was very encouraging and we were very excited as we thought that Lindsey might be born that day. Well, Lindsey and the Lord had different plans. We labored into the night, had some IV drugs for the pain and then about 1:30 am Tuesday morning I had the Epidural. I slept very well that night letting the Meds do their work all while I was sleeping. We woke Tuesday morning to news of good progress I was dilated to 7 and was about 75% effaced. The doctor came in and said we should be able to meet Lindsey about noon on Tuesday. Things then began to slow down. I did not dilate to 10 until 4:00 pm and then began pushing. I pushed until about 7:30 pm and Lindsey would not come down. I was worn out and the Doctor even tried to use the vacuum and she still was not budging. The doctor decided at about 7:30 pm to go ahead with a C-Section. I was so over whelmed and is shock that it did not really hit me until we were in the Operating Room. We found out that the epidural had come out and that probably the last 30 minutes were really pushing without Meds. The doctor started the surgery at 8:00 pm and Lindsey Renee Burkholder was born at 8:11 pm. There was not emergency as Lindsey had looked great on the monitor the whole time. She just did not want to come down. Although there are many opinions, I am thankful to the Lord for a doctor who gave it his best shot but was able to make a wise decision even though it was not what we had planned. Lindsey is doing great. She is strong and healthy and is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen. I am healing well and am trying to take it easy. I am posting from the hospital room and we are scheduled to go home tomorrow. Please pray for us as we go home and continue to recover, grow and learn about this Mom thing. Here are the pictures of Lindsey's room. Thanks belongs to Jake and my Mom for all the help in hanging pictures, curtains, painting and decorating letters, washing and organizing clothes and the many other things that needed to be done for Lindsey's room to be complete. These are Lindsey's outfits (these are only the ones that hang up. You should see her dresser.)that are size 0-6 months.
These are all the other outfits sizes 6 months to 2T. They are already divided into bins by size and I am going to try to be very organized.

These are the letters that we made to put Lindsey's name on the wall. We got the letters at the Wal Mart. I painted each letter the base green and my Mom decorated them with flowers of puff paint. See that picture below for a look at the details.

The personal hygiene area. All the things we need to keep Lindsey smelling sweet and clean are here in a organized place. The cork board on the wall was made by my Mom. This will help me keep track of Lindsey's diaper changes and feedings.

We found this cute sign and just had to have it because this was the first song that Lindsey's daddy ever sang to her while she was still inside her mommy. I just wanted to clarify some things about Lindsey's shoes. The sizes of the shoes are any where from Newborn to size 3. I have only personally paid for about 3-4 pairs. My Mom bought a few pairs and the rest have been gifts or hand-me-downs. We are thankful for how the Lord has provided for each of Lindsey's need and the little extras. :) Hopefully this is helpful to all of you. Thanks for stopping by. FBA Kindergarten Graduation 2008

Well, we have finished another year of Kindergarten here at Faith Baptist Academy. After a very nerve racking morning on Friday, we had our graduation ceremony at 6:00 pm. That morning one of the students had come down with a fever and was not going to be able to be their for the program. So we changed parts and went on to practice. The first run through was not to great. As you know when you change things on these little ones it can cause them to become very nervous. We took a break and let the high school practice for their graduation and then came back and ran through it one more time. This practice was a little better but I was still very nervous. Well, we got to the program that night and they did a great job as they always do. They surprise me every year. Here are a few pictures of the night. We are still waiting on Lindsey. Well, I just wanted to let you see all of Lindsey's shoes that she has collected so far. Jake counted them and there are officially 24 pairs. My mom told my Auntie Anne she could not believe it. Joyful Praise Piano Recital

This was the first year that I had a piano recital. I ended the year with four students and they all did a great job. Our recital was on May 30, 2008. We are all looking forward to a summer off and then starting again in the fall when school starts. I will not be teaching a class at school so I am excited to put more energy into this endevor. This is my good friend's daughter Shelby. She played "Down In The Coal Mine" and "Bells are Ringing" a piece that was adapted from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Baby Update!!!!

Well, I just thought that I would let you know how things are progressing with Lindsey. We went to the doctor today and he said things are starting to progress slowly and that it is looking good for our due date between the 14th and the 17th. I have had some sharp pain and cramping and pressure. All of which are good starting signs. He wants me to walk and move around more to help motivate things. Beside all of that, things are just fine. My weight, blood pressure, and swelling are all good and no signs of toxemia. Tomorrow is the last day of school and is a half day. Then we just have graduation tomorrow evening. I am so excited to make it through the whole year. It is said that I will not teach for a while but I am soooooo excited to be home and take care of my family. Well, that is all for now. Faith Baptist Academy Sports Banquet - "Kings and Queens of the Court"

This year's sports banquet was held on May 16, 2008. The theme was "Kings and Queens of the Court." The kids on the Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer teams really enjoy this night as they are honored for their achievements in the area of athletics. This year our JV Volleyball team won the JV tournament and brought home our first ever JV Championship. They were very excited. Our Varsity Boy Basketball team made it to the Championship game against the North Valley Bulldogs but fell in a very hard game. We were so proud of them as this is a team from a school that is much bigger than ours and had a style and game that we had not played very much. Although they were disappointed, as we were the reigning champions from last year, they all knew that they had played a well fought game and had done their very best. The soccer team had a great year as well as the Varsity Volleyball team. We are anticipating great things to come in the next year.

This first picture was the back drop for the pictures the kids took of each other and their teams. They had so much fun with the props and decorations. The awards table...
Here is Dad giving a word of challenge to the players and reminding them that Faith Baptist Academy is more than just sports and that if we loose our focus from being on the Lord that the sports would be the first thing to go. This was serious coming from the Eagles number one fan. He loves these kids and it is evident in his support of their endeavors. I am thankful for a dad who has put his heart into this ministry and a pastor who loves the people that God has given him.
The next three pictures are banners that Mrs. Jones, a lady in our church, made for each of the Championships or special awards that each team has achieved. This is something special has it had been over 20 years before our school was even a team to be thought of as a contender. We used to joke when I was in high school that they just invited us to the tournament so that they would have at least one team they knew they could beat. Well, things have changed and it is so much fun. May we never forget where we came from.

For some reason the picture of the table center pieces did not get downloaded, but we took a few volleyballs, basketballs, and soccer balls and placed them in a little stand and then put a crown on them. Lindsey's Baby Shower

Tuesday, May 27th was the church baby shower for Baby Lindsey. We had such a great time and Lindsey received so many nice things from the ladies of the church. The theme was pink and brown polka dots. It was so cute. We played a fun game and enjoyed good food. I don't think that Lindsey will need any clothes until she is two. She had so many cute things to wear and I am not sure that she will be able to wear them all. She did get a lot of things that were bigger sizes so that was good. I hope you enjoy the pictures. As far as an update, our doctor's appointment last week was canceled and the next one is on Thursday, June 5th. I have had some cramping and pain but nothing consistent. So we wait and see what the the doctor says and what the Lord has planned. There are only five days of school left and Kindergarten Graduation in this Friday, June 6th. I have prayed all along that I would make it through the whole school year so next weekend would be a great time to have a baby.

We played a great game where we had to blow up the balloon and then diaper it with a cloth diaper. The only problem was that us partners had two hands tied together.
The devotion was really good. Four ladies each took a different stage of childhood and gave advice for each stage. We all had a great time.

Mother Daughter Banquet

This year's Mother Daughter Banquet was a Hawaiian theme. The food was great and the fellowship was wonderful. Mrs. Haveman was our guest speaker. Mrs. Haveman's husband has been a pastor in Post Falls, ID for the past seven years. They have been a blessing and attended many functions of our church. The Lord really used her to be a blessing to the ladies of our church.

Eli comes to town!!!

Jake has been trying to get his brother Eli to come up and visit us for a while. He was able to get some time off and come in April. They had a great time visiting and doing all the brother things. Here are a few pictures of some of the high lights of there time together. On our spring break get-a-way, we found a man who charters seaplane rides. These planes are very common in the Northwest. For those of you who have never seen or heard of them they are planes that can take off from and land on the water. Anyway, Jake, Eli and my Dad chartered a 20 minute flight. They loved it. After they were done my Mom and I met the boys at our favorite Mexican restaurant, Azteca. If you ever come to visit us in Spokane, we will have to take you to Azteca.

Eli wanted to see some snow so Jake took him on this hike around and above Liberty Lake. Jake has been on this hike before and he said that there was so much snow that you could not even find the path. The had a great time finding animal tracks and droppings. :(
These are the falls here is Spokane. The Spokane River flows right through the middle of the city. We have a park downtown called Riverfront Park and there are many bridges and walking paths that cross over the river and there you can see the falls. With the melt off of snow from the mountains, this is the best time of the year to see the falls because they are big and fast. Jake took Eli there to see them and he really enjoyed it.

The Very Few and Very Rare Pictures of Me!!!!

Well, here they are. A few have asked about them and my Mom finally insisted on taking a few pictures of me. I am feeling good but tired. The doctor thinks that I might be a little low on iron so I have been trying to take my iron supplement. My next doctor's appointment is this next Thursday. I will be 34 weeks and may be able to have another ultra-sound to see how big the baby is. Just a few more weeks. For all my friends in Tennessee, we will be visiting for the Youth Congress in July and Lindsey should be about three weeks old. She already has special clothes for her visit and can't wait to meet you all.

On April 12, 2008 my cousin Peter married a great girl, Stephanie. My mom and I were able to host a family wedding shower for her at my MorMor's house. We all had a great time of fun, food and games. We played bridal gift bingo and a memory game with a twist. Here are a few pictures of the shower.Here is the cake. It was the same yummy cake that we had at my wedding. Yellow cake, raspberry filling and Half and Half icing. It's our new favorite.
The food: Veggie tray, sandwiches, chips and drinks. You can't have great party without great food.

Spring Break Get-a-way!!!!!!

Over Spring Break we were able to take a few days to get a way!! We really didn't go very far, we just went into Idaho but we were able to get a really good price on a hotel. We walked around some little shops, went to the new Cabala's, ate lunch at our favorite Bistro shop. We spent some time at the hotel resting and watching a movie. We ate dinner at the Outback Steak House. It was a great time of rest and relaxation.

This was a shooting range like you were hunting. The guns have lasers and you are basically shooting at the little red dots. The have a bear, dear, and lots of other things that do neat stuff when you shoot them. We had a great time shooting these guns. The pictures turned out a little darker then I wanted but I think that you get the idea.

Car Sticker

For the longest time I have wanted to get those family stickers that you put on your car. Well, I had only seen the ones that were white until I was checking my friends blog. She had the cutest stickers with color in them. Thank you Leah, for the great website!!! This was the proof and the only thing that is different is that I did not get the crown on my head. I thought that I was choosing the face so I had the company remove the crown and then you have the stickers that are now on the back of my car. Hey!!!!

Rain, Snow and Hail!!

Well, I don't have any pictures but I just thought that I would let you all know about the crazy weather that we have been having. Spring in the Northwest can be a crazy thing. In the last few days we have had rain, snow, sleet and hail. The latest snow we had was just yesterday. Well, trying not to have a bad attitude, I was thinking of all the reasons that snow this late would be a great thing...Maybe we will be able to have camp fires this year because it would not be so dry, there will be more water in the streams and lakes for a hot summer, and so on. Well, we are right in the middle of the Mission Conference at our church and we have had an interesting opportunity to have four national pastors here. They are from Haiti, Burma, Kenya and Indonesia and are all part of the H.E.L.P Ministry. We also had the opportunity to see our friends Jeremy and Amanda Tyler and their boys. We knew the Tylers at Temple Baptist Church and Crown College and also the Johnson Family who are going to South Africa. Last night at our International Dinner we found out the very best reason that God sent us snow as late as yesterday...Three out of the four national pastors had never seen snow before. They were very cold but what a neat thing for them to get to see snow. This helps all of us Spokanites who are sick of the cold weather and snow to be a little more thankful for the plan of God even in the weather. This week is Spring Break so I am excited that we will get rest and my plan is to get the nursery all ready for Lindsey. Hopefully by the end of the week we will be ready to take and post some pictures of the finished product. That's all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!!!

Baby Update!!

OK, so I have to post tonight before my blog is a month old. It has been a busy month and many things have been going on. Today, we had a doctor's appointment and things seem to be going well. He said that the baby is growing fast and the heartbeat was great. I had to have a glucose test and did not pass so I have to have the big three hour test to see if my levels are ok. We scanned the pictures of Lindsey but they are on my Mom's computer. Mom and Dad have been out of town in Canada so hopefully she will be able to e-mail them to me and I can post them. Tomorrow night is a surprise birthday party and Saturday could be a funeral for a dear family friend so I'd better go. Have a great day and thank you for checking in with our family.

A Busy Week!!!!

Last Wednesday I finally had my doctor's appointment after all the snow. I was very excited because I finally heard the heart beat loud and strong. Jake had dropped me off so that I could get up to the office on time. The doctor was waiting for me so I was not in the office very long. I was a little suprised that Jake had not gotten there yet but as I walked out of the office to make the next appointment, Jake came in. I asked if the parking was bad and he said no that he had been stuck in the elevator for the last 15 minutes. He had started up to the 5th floor and about the 4th floor the elevator stopped and dropped to the 3rd floor. He had to call on the emergancy phone. They got him out and he made it to the end of the appointment. Praise the Lord that he was safe and was able to get out in just 15 minutes.

The doctor ordered the Ultra Sound. The appointment is made for the 21st of February. We will then finally know if it is a boy or a girl. I am going to try to put a survey on the blog so you can vote for what you think the baby will be.

We had our annual Sport Spirit Rally on Feb 8th. We have an auction and raise money to help fund the Sports Program of the School. Area buisnesses donate items that we are able to auction off and we have a concession stand. Last year we raised about $2,000. We had a goal of $4,000. Through all of the fund raising this year we raised $6,000. This is such a blessing and will help the school so much. We also had a fun time with the teams. The girls had a volleyball serving contest and the boys had a basketball shoot out. Jake was able to shoot with one of the guys who's dad was not able to be there. He was very excited that Nathan would ask him.

This week is Spirit Week. We have already had Nerd Day, Occupation Day and Twin Day. Tomorrow is Hat and Slipper Day and Friday is Green and White Day. (The School Colors) I will try to post pictures of the week later on. Next week is the big President's Day Tournament with a very fancy banquet and of course basketball and volleyball. Another Snow Day

Well, it took a few days but today was another snow day. We woke up to about 5.8 inches of new snow. It was also bad because with this storm we had high winds. I was a little suprised that we called off school but parts of the interstate was closed for parts of the day and the drifting snow was bad. There were state highways all over the eastern part of Washington that have been closed all day. The basketball and volleyball teams were to make a trip to Seattle and they canceled the trip because the pass over the Cascade Mts. has been closed off and on for the past two days. I think that the teams were disappointed but know that it was the right decision. Well, due to the weather, my doctors appointment was cancelled today and rescheduled for Wednesday. The doctor should then order the ultra sound to tell whether the baby is a boy or girl. I think that I have found a crib set that will work for either. It is at walmart.com and is called BaZoople Friends. It is jungle and has lots of colors, blue, green, yellow and pink. We can accent the colors for either boy or girl. Well, I'd better go but I thought that I would update everyone on what was going on. Have a great day and I will keep you updated on Wednesday. It's A Snow Day!!

It's a snow day. Well, the anticipation for snow days began in the early days of my life. Living in Washington we had snow every winter but of course we did not always have snow days because we have lots of snow plows and 4 wheel drive cars. Then I went to college in a state that does not always get a lot of snow so the anticipation changed to not only a snow day but any snow at all. I quickly learned that if snow was merely in the forecast that we would get a day off. Then I taught in Tennessee and again saw the children as they explored the wonder of a snow day. I learned how to wear my PJ's inside out and many other childhood ways of wishing for a snow day. Well, today is such a fun day (and I did not even have to wear my pajama's inside out) because over the weekend we received over 13 inches of snow. The snow wouldn't have been so bad but about half way through the storm it started to be a rain/snow mix. It did not stop snowing until about 6:30 pm Sunday night. Well, the over night temperature was supposed to be 24 but ended up being about 7. Take heavy wet snow, melt just slightly and then drop the temperature to well below freezing and not only do you get a frozen city but you also get a snow day. We have had a great time running errands and spending the day together. I slept in and am going shopping with my mom. We ate at one of our hometown places called "Sparky's Firehouse Subs." (As we were sitting there we both said this is a Mark Fowler/Scott Pauley place to eat) It was neat. All the decor was things from old firehouses. The tables were covered with newspaper articles from local papers about the local fires and firemen. The food was good and a fun place to eat. The very scary thing is that the forecast says that we could get up to another 15 inches of snow in some places over the next five days. Maybe we will have another snow day. Thanks for checking in. Happy Birthday to my Wonderful Husband!!

On Thursday, January 17th, my husband Jake Burkholder celebrated his birthday. I just wanted you to see some pictures of the fun that we have had over the last year and a half. I am thankful for the husband that the Lord has given me. He is sweet, kind, loving, encouraging and supportive. I am sure that I have left something out but am again thankful that the Lord has allowed Jake to be a part of my life. I am truly blessed!!

Continuing our Holiday Fun on the 29th of December we all went over to Seattle for the "Battle In Seattle." This is the annual Gonzaga game that they play in Seattle. This year they played Tennessee. We were so excited because of course as explained in an earlier post we have not lost our Tennessee Fever. The trip was great. We rented a van so that we could all ride together and Dad found a really good deal on a hotel in Seattle. The hotel was beautiful and very luxurious. After the game, that Tennessee won, we ate dinner at a Seattle favorite and a family tradition when we go to Seattle. Enjoy the pictures and thanks for stopping by.

The boys enjoying there McDonald's breakfast. We went downtown early before the game so that we could walk around Downtown Seattle and see the sights. Watching the game at Key Arena was really fun. Of course, I don't think anyone out here as ever heard of Rocky Top so every time Tennessee did something good they did not play it. Well, I just couldn't let that go so every time they did good I sang, "Good ol' Rocky Top, Rocky Top Tennessee." I think by the end of the game the people in front of me were tired of the song. :)

Baby Update: We had an appointment on Thursday and everything looks great. Our next appointment will be on the 31st of January and then the doctor said he would order the ultra sound that we need to know if the baby is a boy or a girl. Just three more weeks. I can't wait. Holiday Fun!!

I am sorry that this is so late but I was waiting on the pictures and I have posted a lot lately with out any pictures and I just hate doing that. Well, we had a great time with my mom and dad and Eric and Christa. We spent most of the day at my parents house watching movies, opening gifts and playing games. I hope you enjoy these pictures!!! The boys got matching backpacks. There is a funny story about this one. Mom did not do a very good job of hiding the backpacks. So one day Jake saw them. I thought he only saw one so I told him that it was for Eric. He was really put out because he likes any thing camo. Well, later Eric was at the house and he saw both of them and Mom told him that they were for Dad and Jake. Well, I guess that he was put out too because he likes camo also. Needless to say neither one of them were real surprised that they got backpacks for Christmas.

Mrs. Paisley's Funeral

We attended Mrs. Paisley's funeral and graveside service. It was a great blessing and nice to see the family. God's grace is so evident in their lives. Please continue to pray for the family as these days always seem to be the easiest time and later when things have settled down and it all sets in the emotions will be higher. Baby Travis is doing so well. He will be a year old this month. He seems to be happy and likes to be held and passed around.

I will try to post pictures of Christmas and Holiday fun soon. We had a taste of Good Ol' Rocky Top in Seattle. I will explain soon. I am waiting on my mom to get the disk back from Walmart. Mrs. Paisley: At Home With The Lord

Please pray for the Paisley, Wilson and Rogers families in the home going of their wife and mother, Mrs. Dorothy Paisley. Mrs. Paisley is a dear friend of our family and has been fighting this battle with cancer. As my dad said last night at our prayer meeting, "The cancer lost and Heaven is a sweeter place." The Paisley family has been a great blessing to our family from the first day that we stopped by their church on the way to Spokane to start our own church. As I was sleeping last night I woke up and thought of some things that Mrs. Paisley meant to me. So here it is...
